Today is My Someday
Betsy Benoit
Time has a unique ability to run away with itself. As soon as I think "Aha! I've got you!" it slips away, like a light passing under a doorway.
So many times I've watched that very light grow gently in the gap between the door and the floor, shine brilliantly, then fade to nothing. Last year I decided to throw open the door and see what happened.
What the light held were possibilities; opportunities to experience something unique, not just see its light under the door. Friends telling stories at a brand new venue; capturing a beautiful sunset in watercolor paints; seeing a dear friend start a business based on her love of stories.
This friend's passion for stories led to a heartfelt conversation with another friend on a different continent. A quiet thought was born that someday, things would come together to showcase an individual's story in glorious, riotous colors. A few weeks later, Someday became Today, and I am flying off to Adaklu Kodzobi to start the pilot program for the Hidden Story Project - coaching community members and students on the beauty and importance of their own stories. What started as a light under the door became a wild spotlight shining on everyone around me, lighting up my world in ways I never thought possible.
